1994

  • First Big C opened in Chaengwattana Road in Bangkok

1999

  • Big C decides to form a business alliance with France-based Casino Group. Casino Group buys 530 million shares of Big C’s capital increase, making them the largest shareholder after the company's recapitalization.
  • After securing the controlling stake in Big C, the Casino Group decides to sell the entire garment business in order to concentrate only on the retail activity and strengthen the efficiency of the current operation.

2002

  • Big C Foundation is launched, aiming to provide educational opportunities to less-privileged children.

2005

  • Compact Big C outlet format is introduced. It is smaller than the previous hypermarkets, with an average retail space of 6,000 sqm compared to 10,000 sqm of normal hypermarkets.

2007

  • Big C private label is launched

2008

  • Big C launches its second private label called Happy Baht.

2009

  • Big Card, Big C’s loyalty program is launched.

2010

  • Big Card membership reaches 5 million members New supermarket format called Big C Market is introduced.
  • Big C launches Big C premium private label.

2011

  • Big C acquires Carrefour’s Thailand operations (43 stores), and assumes its position as co-leading hypermarket operator in Thailand.
  • 15 ex-Carrefour stores are converted to Big C Extra, a new premium hypermarket format targeting mid to high income customers.
  • Introduced Big C Jumbo, a new large format store targeting professional customers such as hotels, restaurants and caterers (HORECA), small and medium-size retailers, companies and institutions, as well as large families.

2012

  • Entered into an "Exclusive Retail Agreement" with Bangchak Petroleum to set up Mini Big C proximity stores in Bangchak filling stations, and opened 7 pilot stores duying the year.
  • Executed a successful private placement of 26.4 million shares in May 2012.

2013

  • As part of the celebration of our 20th anniversary, Big C launched a bottom-up Corporate Social Responsibility program that brings the local community to work with the store in the area to develop projects that best suit their interest.
  • In April 2013, continued our partnership with Bangchak Petroleum by signing an exclusive long-term "retail partnership agreement” to open Mini Big C proximity stores in Bangchak filling stations.
  • Launched Big C retail assurance services by teaming-up with number of leading insurance operators to offer our customers with full range of easy-to-activate policies and great value for money.

2014

  • Big year of new supply chain developments: Mini Big C distribution center opened in Q2, Cross Dock facility opened in Q3, started construction of Fresh Food distribution center during Q3.
  • Accelerated our development in the e-commerce business with the creation of a pure e-commerce player when we launched Cdiscount.co.th during Q1. We also overhauled our bigc.co.th website during Q3.
  • Continued our cost optimization and productivity enhancement initiatives on various areas.
  • Continued expansion in all store formats during the year.

2015

  • Increased our supply chain capacity by opening the new state-of-the-art Fresh Food Distribution Center in Chachoengsao province.
  • Ramped-up our store renovations, ranging from simple space reflow to major Alcudia renovations, to utilize our existing assets more efficiently.
  • Our omni-channel integration progressed further with joint promotion campaigns between our physical and online stores and by opening more online order pickup points at our stores.
  • Launched various exciting partnership developments with Rabbit Card, Thailand Post, and HappyFresh.

2016

  • Big C started 2016 in exciting circumstances as in late March BJC Group acquired Casino Group’s holdings in Big C, and subsequently after the closing of mandatory tender offer for the remaining shares in mid-May, BJC Group’s holding in Big C increased to nearly 98%. This change will further strengthen Big C’s business platform as various areas of potential synergies have already been identified and are pursued over coming years.
